Success is a team effort, and your students need you! Below are the many ways you can help our students reach their goals!
Chaperones: Parent chaperones are needed for each competition. Volunteers will assist the performers at game and competition sites. They should always maintain a calm, positive, and supportive atmosphere for the performers. All chaperones should follow correct protocol for event sign-up and district forms.
Costume Washing and Maintenance: Costumes are washed (by hand) after each weekend performance and should line-dry. They must then be returned to hanging garment bags before the next performance. Parent volunteer should also check for issues needing repair, and either repair or notify alteration people of need to repair in time for next performance.
Flags-Fabric burning/cutting: Volunteers will be cutting flags, burning flag fabric, and pinning the fabric into the various pattern pieces that will be used to create show flags. Burning is achieved by placing flag poly-silk or lame` fabric on drywall and ‘cutting’ around a cardboard pattern with a wood-burning tool.
Flags-Sewing and Repair: Volunteers piece together and sew show and practice flags. Various degrees of skill are helpful and range from simple ironing and thread trimming to extensive sewing. There will also be a need for flag repair throughout the season.
Flag bags: Flag bag up-keep and repair is necessary throughout the year. Parent volunteers are essential in assisting with this process.
Hair: Parent volunteers are needed to assist the guard girls with their hair before football games and competitions. Hair style will be determined by a professional artist before first competition. All girls will need to supply their own bobby pins, ponytail holders, hair gel, hairspray and any other needed items for creating the hairstyle. There really is no need for previous experience; volunteers and girls will learn step-by-step how to style show hair.
Make-up: This position is responsible for maintaining make-up (airbrushing) equipment, monitoring supplies, ordering new supplies as necessary, and meeting with make-up supplier at beginning of season to ensure understanding of make-up scheme. Parent volunteers will assist the girls with airbrushing and make-up before football games and competitions.
Inventory Tracking: Parent volunteers keep track of old inventory, and organize items in preparation for consignment, when items are no longer needed. Volunteers also maintain order in the sewing room.
Food: Parent volunteers are needed to coordinate and solicit snack donations from parents/businesses. Snacks and food are essential for camp days and competition days especially during the winter guard season.
Props: Parent volunteers are needed to coordinate and build props particularly for the winter season.
Painting: The painting of props and floor tarps and even flags and costumes are regular occurrences. Parent volunteers are needed to assist with this process.
Competition Day Coordinator: We need 2-3 parents that will be responsible for ensuring all bases have been covered! Equipment, costumes, props, etc. Guard staff will assist with this process.
